SalesOutlook is a Smart Client
For some time, user interfaces have been categorized into two broad categories: rich clients and thin clients (Web browser-based clients). While rich clients typically provide a high-quality, responsive user experience and have good developer and platform support, they can introduce deployment and maintenance challenges. Thin clients, however, have interactivity and usability challenges and are far from ideal in addressing the back-end integration challenges that organizations face. Thin clients underutilize local computing resources and generally do not have an offline capability. Also, thin clients do not generally integrate well with the desktop applications that information workers use throughout the day. Smart clients, which seek to combine the best of both approaches, provide an attractive alternative.

Smart Clients
Recognizing the inherent weaknesses of both thin and rich client approaches, SalesOutlook combines the best of both approaches. SalesOutlook CRM software combines the benefits of a rich client with the manageability of a thin client. Some of the characteristics and implicit benefits of a smart client solution include the following:

Utilization of local resources. A smart client takes advantage of local hardware and software resources.
Offline capability. Smart clients work when either connected or disconnected from the network.
Connectivity. Smart client applications can interact with Web services that provide access to data or an enterprise application.

Due to these benefits, a smart client application in many cases provides a significantly more productive and powerful user experience. SalesOutlook is an excellent example of a smart client solution that provides accessing data from multiple sources such as SharePoint and Exchange Server.

SalesOutlook is a Smart Client Solution Built with Microsoft Office.
Microsoft Office applications take advantage of the power of the local processor while giving users access to information and services that reside on remote systems. Users have access to data from one or more back-end systems in an application context that they are familiar with.
SharePoint takes advantage of the Web and can be used for archiving or for large lists while Outlook is used to store the contact and account data. Data typically only available in Outlook e-mails and other Office documents is no longer locked away in a single user's desktop computer. Users can read and update data from one or more back-end systems within the Office system.
